What are the biggest wedding business mistakes in terms of branding not to make?

Hey, I'm Jenn, founder and CEO of Jennifer Lynn Consulting. I help creative professionals, especially in the wedding industry, get booked solid with higher end clients, and as I call them, "Angel Clients."

We've already talked about the biggest branding mistake that you can make in your wedding business, and that's not showing your prospective clients who you really are. That's the biggest one. Today, we're talking about three other branding mistakes not to make in your business, those that create a disconnect to attracting your higher end angel clients.

Number one:
Consistency across all platforms

Your website, and all of your social media, etc. If you don't already have your banners and more set up, just head over to Canva. It's Canva.com. It's easy to create a banner for one social media platform, like Facebook. Then you can just simply press a button to resize it for each other platform. It's the coolest thing if you're not already using it. Canva allows you to do this with just a click of a button, and it's one of the easiest, most straightforward ways to do this. Awesome, right? It's totally free unless you want to upgrade for some additional things.

What you want to do is then download it to your computer, and upload to each of those platforms. Make sure you're using the same few colors as well, using your branding palette. If you don't already have that, it's okay, but just be consistent.

Number two:

Do you have and know your one liner by heart?

Now you're like, "Okay, Jenn. My one liner, what is she talking about?" A lot of people call it an elevator pitch. Let's make sure that that elevator pitch is consistent everywhere as well. So, what's an elevator pitch? It's pretty much what you do, who you do it for, and how you do it differently.

Take a minute right now, answer those questions, write it down. If you're not really sure, just get it down on paper. Now, say it out loud. Does it make sense? Is it short and easy to understand? Then later on today, I want you to share it with someone you know, someone who will brutally honest with you. Make sure you ask them to be brutally honest. What do they think of it? Does it make complete sense for them? Does it really do you justice?

Now, as far as your website goes, and I see this with a lot of my clients, are you focusing on yourself or your ideal client? Are you speaking her language? Are you speaking to her instead of at her? Remember, until someone really gets to know you, what they want to know is "WIFM", What's in it For Me? Not how many awards you've won, or what you want to do for them. Do your homework and find out.

Back to these branding mistakes.

Number three:

Are your marketing materials conveying the same message verbally and visually?

Is there a professional, meaning taken by a photographer, not a good selfie shot of you, on your brochures, on your website, on social media? I see a lot of people avoiding this, and I avoided it for a long time because I didn't think I could afford it. I really didn't think it was necessary because I was getting inquiries. But looking back on it, how much business did I lose because my branding, my professional branding, didn't create a sense of trust and professionalism?

Now, I don't care where you have to find a good photographer, but do it today. Make that a goal that you take action on today. One way might be to ask the photographer you work with at your next event. It could be your next wedding, it could be any event that you're working and where there's a professional photographer. Ask them if they'd be willing to help you with this, paid of course, because we want to support our fellow vendors unless they're looking to build their portfolio, and want you to trade in some way. There's nothing wrong with that if you're just getting started.

Ask the videographer also if they'll get a few minutes of coverage of you behind the scenes. Paid of course! Your ideal clients, your angel brides, want to see what you do behind the scenes. They want to see all the pretty pictures, but they also want to see you in your element. Now for your business cards, please spend a little extra. Splurge on the higher end card stock. It will pay you back in spades. It's totally worth it.

If you're looking for support in getting booked solid with dream brides, head over to Work With Me, and schedule your call.
